Moomoni

MOOd MONItor. A daily mood log, a couple of minutes each evening.

Hello, mood people.

I’m a doctor (not a psychiatrist), and like many of you, I live with bipolar disorder. I built Moomoni because I wanted it for myself.

At appointments, weeks of depression, hypomania, bad days and medication changes kept getting reduced to “a bit up and down”. A mood chart tells the story much better. It also helped me stop wondering whether I was making the whole thing up.

No judgement. No lectures. Just a better picture of what your mood has been doing. Read why I made Moomoni.

How it works

Moomoni asks the same short set of questions every evening: last night's sleep, then today's mood, energy, thoughts, and the things that matter in mood disorders. Big buttons, one question per screen, done in a couple of minutes.

Your data stays on your phone. There are no accounts and nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share. Back it up to a file whenever you like and restore it on a new phone.

What it does

Installing on Android

  1. Tap Download for Android above, on your phone.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android says it can't install apps from this source, tap Settings, allow it, then tap Install.
  3. Open Moomoni. Optionally fill in Settings → About you so reports carry your details.

iPhone, or any phone without installing

  1. Open moomoni.com/app in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).
  2. On iPhone tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
  3. Open Moomoni from the new icon. Your entries stay on your phone, and it works without a signal.

The browser version has everything except the daily reminder, which iPhones don't allow a web app to set; use the Clock app for that. Save as PDF uses the browser's own share or print button.

The clinician link

If you turn it on, the app encrypts your report on the phone and stores the encrypted copy here. The key is only in the link you send, so this server cannot read it; whoever has the full link can. Your clinician opens the link in any browser and always sees your latest entries.

Not a medical device

Moomoni records and displays what you enter. It does not diagnose, predict or advise, and it is not a monitoring service: nobody is alerted if your mood changes, and your clinician won’t see your chart unless you share it. If you are in crisis, contact your crisis team or emergency services, or call Samaritans on 116 123 (UK and Ireland).
